Seven tips to provide your children a healthy diet

Everyone should know that parents play an enormous role in helping their children learn healthy eating habits.
Healthfinder.gov has an action plan to help guide parents on the best ways to feed their kids a healthy diet. Here are seven tips from Healthfinder.gov to help your children eat healthy:
1. Make a shopping list with healthy foods. Buy and serve more vegetables, fruits, and whole grain foods.
2. Read the nutrition label on packages to help you make healthy choices.
3. Let your child pick out healthy foods to try.
4. Give children age 2 and older water or fat-free or low-fat milk instead of soda or juice. Children under age 2 can drink whole milk.
5. Get tips on how to lower the calories and fat in family meals and snacks.
6. Help children know when they’ve had enough. Give your kids a chance to stop eating when they feel full.
7. Be a role model for your child by making smart food choices. That benefits parents as well because a healthy diet can help protect you from heart disease, some types of cancer, and type 2 diabetes.
