27 Jan Picking Out the Right Treadmill for Your Physical Needs
Are you trying to figure out what type of treadmill you should purchase? While there are many things you should take into consideration when purchasing a treadmill, such as the number of workout programs the treadmill has to offer, the price and the accessories that are included in the machine, you also need to consider your height and weight when selecting a treadmill. This way, you can be certain to select a treadmill to meet your physical needs.
Treadmills and Weight
As you shop for treadmills, you will notice that the manufacture provides a weight capacity for each specific model. While these weight capacities serve as a good guideline, it is important to note that many manufacturers actually overstate the capacity of their treadmills. This is particularly true if you plan to use the treadmill for running, as running on a treadmill places pressure equivalent to about 2 ½ times your body weight on the machine. Therefore, in order to make certain the treadmill you purchase is able to properly withstand your body weight and will not slip while you are using it, you should look for a treadmill that is capable of handling 50 to 75 pounds more than you weigh. If you weigh 200 pounds, for example, you should look for a treadmill that can handle 250 to 275 pounds in order to be sure it will be able to handle your weight.
In addition to looking for a treadmill that is rated for a higher capacity than what you actually weigh, you should also look for one with a one inch deck if you weigh 250 pounds or more. This way, there will be less likelihood of the deck breaking during use.
Treadmills and Height
In order to get the best workout from your treadmill, you need to be able to walk or run in your natural stride. Therefore, if you are a tall person, you need to be certain to select a treadmill with a belt that is long enough to allow this to happen. If you are 6 feet tall or taller, you should look at purchasing a treadmill with a deck that is at least 54 inches long if you plan to run on it. If you are 6 foot 2 inches or taller, you may want to look for one that is at least 60 inches long.
